Enjoy The Hobby Of Creating Beautiful Stained Glass Mosaic Artworks

Have you ever looked at a magnificent stained glass window and been truly amazed at its dazzling qualities of color and light?

Have you ever thought how long and hard the stained glass craftsmen must have trained to be able to create such magnificent works of Art?

Have you sometimes wished that the craft of stained glass was a little cheaper to get started in?

Do you ever wish that learning stained glass was not such a complicated and specialist process?

Well if you have answered Yes to any of these above questions, then maybe you should consider the popular and unusual hobby of making your own Stained glass mosaic

Whilst traditional stained glass work is often very costly to make and the equipment needed is quite expensive, the materials and tools needed for stained glass mosaic are much more affordable to the average person.

Because you are not buying full sheets of stained glass, the glass for mosaics is a lot cheaper because you can buy cheaper offcuts, broken bits of glass that no one else needs. You can either buy pre made mini glass tiles in a range of different colours that look exactly like stained glass.

To really create art glass that takes on the qualities of traditional stained glass, the stained glass on glass method is recommended. This basically involves adhering glass pieces onto a clear sheet of glass (eg old picture frame glass), using a clear drying glue such as Weldbond. Designs are best kept simple and an outline can be placed under the clear glass to give you something to work to. As you glue each piece down , make sure it is very firmly pushed down and leave a gap of a few millimeters between each mosaic piece.

When you have completed it, you will need to fill the gaps between the pieces using tiling grout. A dark color is best and this will make the colored glass stand out really well. If you have used an old piece of picture glass then you can use the frame from it to finish off your stained glass mosaic, this will also cover any sharp edges left on the glass.

I would definitely suggest that youstart out with simple designs with no more than three colours at first. Often the simplest designs are the most effective. If you are interested in finding more details about stained glass mosaics , then visit:
