The scariest part about cutting children’s hair for beginners is the concern that you might cut off too much. To steer clear of this pitfall, find some masking or scotch tape! Brush your victim’s hair as straight as possible. You can dampen it a bit, but not too much or the tape won’t stick. This method is good for straight cuts. Use sharp scissors

Use sharp scissors - preferably not kid’s craft scissors or scissors you’ve used to cut something sticky in the kitchen.

Use 2-3 inch lengthy pieces of tape. You can overlap them if necessary. Put the tape on the hair so the upper edge of the tape is where you want to make the cut. In other words, when you cut, you will be cutting off the tape. Tape and cut in sections. First do the bangs, and then the lower edges. If you are feeling optimistic about your skill level, you can try to cut some layers as well. Start with the longest layer and work your way up.

Here are some techniques to cutting children’s hair for beginners:

1) This cheap and cheesy way is a great way to make the most of your hairdressers skills in his or her absence. For this method to be triumphant, you must trim the hair 4-6 weeks after the professional cut. You must also be careful by nature. If you forget your name a few times a day, you lack the memory power to pull this method off. Decide how much shorter you want your hair. It’s only been 4-6 weeks, so I suggest 1/2 inch to 1 inch tops.

You will need quite a lot of bobby pins or clips. Wet your child’s hair and comb straight. Starting at your middle part, take an inch section of the hair from your hands to the back of his/her head. You’ll maybe have to do this in sections to get it all. Cut the decided upon quantity of hair from in a straight line along the ends. Take a bobby pin and put it on these strands of hair. This is so you know you’ve cut that section of hair already.

2) This is the experimental hair cutting technique. For instance, the sides of my sons hair seems to grow exponentially compared to the rest of his hair - even though all hair should grow at even rates. It does not. This is a lie someone made up for their own delight. Or maybe it’s true and we are crazy.

Either way… Your bangs are too long. Take small pinches of your bangs and cut them a bit at a time, looking at the results in between. Continue until they look like you want them to look. Like my son, the sides of your hair are too long. Brush the sides straight and cut an equal amount from both sides.

There are so many more great and useful tools cutting children’s hair at home. This was just a glimpse into how easy it can be and how it can save you money. Most children need their hair cut at least once every 2 months and how much easier can it be to do it at home than having to bring them out so frequently.
