Before you can start a website you need to have a hosting provider, a host is basically where you domains are parked, hosts will provide space for your website. Many hosts offer unlimited space for your websites, unlimited domains and unlimited FTP (File Transfer Protocol). FTP Allows you to transfer data from your site to your host, so you can build a site on a different network and transfer it to your host and you will get that website on the domain you currently have on the host. There are some hosts that offer limited space like only 200GB of disk space and only a certain amount of transfers, you want to stay clear of these hosting sites because they are most likely not worth the money. A Domain is the name of a website, you can transfer them from host to host if you don’t like your current hosting provider and you want a new one, so you basically have millions of options with what you wish to do with your website.

Most hosting sites do have downtime, if your host is under 75% up time then I would not recommend them, since most of the hosting sites have 99.9% up time so this should not concern you. Many hosts use Linux for there hosting, I personally like windows hosting although you shouldn’t worry about if your host is Linux or windows no matter what type of software you have on your computer will determine if it works or not. When you sign up for a host you usually have to pay monthly, a good host with unlimited storage and transfer should cost anywhere between $3.50 to $10.00 per month. If your hosting is anywhere higher then $10.00 per month i would recommend staying clear of them because they could be trying to scam you. Any host without unlimited storage should cost anywhere under $4.00 per month, if it’s higher don’t get them.

If you are going to start a website or a blog you must get a host provider, I would recommend getting unlimited storage, it’s the best way to keep good websites up and will really help you in the long run. Don’t worry to much though you can always switch hosts and transfer your website to a new one through FTP. There are many hosting sites that offer rewards for signing up for there hosting, don’t let that fool you. A hosting site could determine how good you website will turn out if your new to website design. Try to find more information about hosting providers before you sign up because that could lead to a failing website and some wasted money, do some research or look for some reviews online.
